Summary

The competent Nurse, in a similar clinical setting, practices independently and is aware of all relevant aspects of various situations. The role involves providing both routine and complex care, along with the ability to focus on long-term goals and plans. The nurse continues to develop skills to cope with and manage clinical contingencies while making appropriate assignments and delegating tasks to other care providers to effectively manage clinical situations.

Responsibilities

  • Meet expectations of applicable competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Provide nursing care consistent with the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
  • Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families according to practice level.
  • Administer medications and treatments per established protocols, monitoring for side effects and treatment effectiveness.
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
  • Assess learning needs and educate patients, family members, and caregivers, identifying issues and resources.

Job Requirements

Education/Skills

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience

  • One year of experience in a related nursing specialty preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • BLS certification required (AHA only).
  • ACLS certification required (AHA only).
  • Current RN License in the state of Texas or compact state license.

Position Requirements

Education/Skills

  • All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
  • New hires will be precepted by a designated trained staff member, with initial onboarding requirements validated through successful completion of designated organizational entry competency validation and MedSurg specific competency validation.
  • All newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency program or specific orientation tailored to their needs.
  • Skills completion and competency verification will be documented through designated program tracking software.
  • Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is expected.

Experience

  • One year of experience in a related nursing specialty preferred.
