Facility is a level 1 trauma designation and a teaching hospital. Each Med Surg unit has 20-36 beds. Patient types include a variety of inpatient Med Surg/Telemetry cases. Patient ratios are RN: 1:4-6, LPN: 1:4-6, CNA: up to 1:14. CNA will assist with vitals, blood glucose checks, bathing, bed changes, and patient safety. Charge nurse is available on each unit. Most units perform lab collection for phlebotomy; RNs draw from central venous lines. A PICC team is available; there is no IV team. Telemetry monitoring is provided by a central unit. The facility uses EMR: EPIC. IV Pump brand is Alaris. Medication dispensing system is Pyxis. Vital sign monitors include VS3. Unit culture is busy and team-oriented. Travelers will be required to float to all Med/Tele units as needed. Certification in Med Surg is a plus. Common patient care skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucometer use. Travelers must complete an EKG competency exam during onboarding.
