Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical/Surgical/Telemetry

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry. This position requires commitment to delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Job Details

  • Target Ratios: 1:5-6
  • Shift: 12-hour days; 36 or 48 hours accepted
  • Contract Duration: 13-26 weeks
  • Unit Orientation: 24 hours
  • Hospital Orientation: Week one; availability required for daily classes

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a medical-surgical or telemetry setting
  • Accepts first-time travelers; locals are also welcome
  • Skills in:
    • Medical/Surgical nursing
    • Telemetry remote monitoring
    • Rapid Response Team utilization
    • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
    • IV insulin protocols
    • Colostomy care
    • Feeding tube care and management
    • Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line blood draws
    • PICC line management
    • Starting IVs and Peripheral line care
    • Phlebotomy
    • Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac)
    • Non-invasive airway management (CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, etc.)
    • Wound care and management
    • Isolation precautions
  • Certification: BCLS required

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience in MS/Tele and unit monitoring
  • Understanding of dysrhythmias
  • Accessing ports and managing insulin
  • CVA care and surgical drain management
  • Ability to interpret ABGs and manage tracheostomies
  • Familiarity with EPIC system

Additional Requirements

  • RTO (Request Time Off): Maximum of 7 days; RTO after booking not allowed
  • Floating to other units may be required
  • Weekend shifts: 12-16 shifts per contract
  • Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team or Hurricane Team and may be required to work during emergencies

Patient Population

Common diagnoses include dementia, diabetes, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture, along with typical medical/surgical conditions.
