Description:
Observation unit that will have chest pain rule-out patients.
Supports the emergency department when the hospital is full and holding patients.
Many times, these patients are cardiac in nature.
Cardiac and telemetry experience is preferred.
The unit floats between medical surgical units and overflow in the emergency department.
May float to psychiatric units as well.
Patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
Daily census is approximately 20 patients.
Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation.
Preferred skills include managing cardiac telemetry, chest tubes, central line care, and post-cardiac care.
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in various medical procedures such as intravenous management, wound care, and seizure disorder management.
Required to manage a patient ratio up to 5 patients.
Must float as needed between units.
Candidates must have strong critical thinking skills and the ability to provide quality care to diverse patient populations.
Required to uphold infection control protocols and patient safety measures.
