The unit consists of 16 beds, with a full census. Patient diagnoses are primarily geriatric-related, including diabetes, gastrointestinal, respiratory, renal issues, wounds, and dressing changes. The typical patient demographic includes individuals aged 65 and older who are functional community dwellers. The focus is on mobilization of patients, with bed turnover rates of three to four. Nurse-to-patient ratios are approximately 5-6:1, and CNA support is 8:1. A CNA provides basic nursing care to assigned patients and assists the RN as needed. Additional support includes a receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomist, and an IV/VAT team. A rapid response team is available 24/7 but not housed on the unit. Telemetry monitoring is centralized. Key equipment includes EMR, IV pumps, and medication dispensing systems. Familiarity with age-related care is preferred. The unit culture emphasizes patient-centered care, reliability, and strong teamwork.
