The nurse will work in a dynamic and fast-paced department with an average daily census of approximately 51 patients. Patient populations include those with chronic diseases, congestive heart failure, mental health issues, addiction services, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, wounds, and geriatric care. Patient ratios are typically 1:4-6, with the potential for increased ratios during surge times. The role includes floating to other nursing units based on patient care needs and staffing demands. Adaptability and clinical flexibility are required when floating to units within scope of practice. The nurse will collaborate with a supportive team, including Nurse Managers, Clinical Supervisors, staff RNs, CNAs, and Rapid Response RNs. The use of technology and equipment, including an electronic medical record system and various medical devices, is essential. Core competencies include the ability to interpret cardiac rhythms, administer non-titrating cardiac drips, perform IV starts, and manage wound care. The culture of the department emphasizes teamwork and accountability. Traveling nurses will be expected to work a weekend rotation and a significant portion of holidays. Up to 6 days off may be approved, excluding holidays. Continuous professional development and a commitment to patient care excellence are expected.
