Must-Have:
- General Med/Tele skillset
- Stroke experience
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Tracheostomy care
- Peripheral IV starts
- Chest tube management
- Nasogastric tube placement
- Drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, etc.)
- PCA pump medication drip management, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, intravenous fluids
Description:
This position is for a MedSurg/Telemetry Registered Nurse.
The unit consists of medical-surgical and telemetry units.
The primary focus is to decompress the emergency department and specialty areas within the facility.
Patient types include adults and geriatrics.
Common diagnoses include COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, congestive heart failure exacerbation, falls with injuries, motor vehicle collisions with injuries, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, urinary tract infections, pneumothorax, gastrointestinal bleeds, and cerebrovascular accidents.
The patient ratio may vary depending on the unit and acuity levels.
Registered Nurses in this specialty will have a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:5-6, acuity dependent.
Support staff includes certified nursing assistants who assist with patient care, hygiene, and vital signs.
Secretaries are available to assist with administrative tasks.
There is a resource nurse assigned on a long-term contract within the department.
Clientists are available for patient care throughout the day and cross-cover during the night.
Telemetry monitoring is managed by the nursing team on the units.
Electronic medical records are utilized in the department, with specific monitoring and medication dispensing equipment in place.
Floating may be required based on region needs within the scope of practice.
Weekend rotation is every other weekend, and holiday expectations require travelers to work 75% of holidays.
Requests for time off may be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays.
Scrub color is navy blue, and the department culture emphasizes a family-like environment among team members.
