Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 18 months Med/Tele RN experience required License: RN Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Basic Med/Tele skillset, including cardiac rhythm interpretation Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips Wound care and drain/tube management PIV starts and central line management Description: The RN will work in a unit with 32 beds and an average census of 28. Patient types and common diagnoses include total joint replacements, colon resection, gallbladder removal, appendectomy, amputations, medical overflow, hip fractures, and small bowel obstruction. Patient ratios are 1:4-6 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. In surge staffing situations, ratios may increase to 1:7-8. Support within the unit includes CNAs who assist with vital signs, baths, mobility, and turning, as well as a receptionist/health unit coordinator who handles rounds and secretary duties. A charge nurse will serve as a resource to assist with nursing care. Phlebotomy is available, with nurses generally not performing draws. Technology used includes an electronic medical record system, IV pumps, and med dispensing systems. Floating to other facilities within the region may be required based on needs and will be within the scope of practice. Orientation includes departmental training. Weekend rotation is required every other weekend. Travelers may need to call back for low census situations. There are expectations to work a percentage of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved, provided the contracted hours are met. Scrub color is navy.
