Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 Years Med/Tele Experience License: Active RN License (Georgia) Certifications: BLS, Basic Cardiac Rhythm Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment skills, med-surg nursing skills Description: RN position in MedSurg/Telemetry unit. Facility features 140 licensed beds and a Level 3 Trauma Designation. Unit consists of 24 beds with a census of 24. Patient types include those with acute or chronic diseases, post-operative surgeries, and co-morbidities common to the med-surg population such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, congestive heart failure, and electrolyte imbalances. Patient ratios are approximately 1:4-6 for RN and LPN, and 2-3 CNAs per shift. Required skills include tracheostomy care, chest tube management, peripheral IV starts, insulin and heparin drips, and strong clinical assessment skills. Nurses will manage IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-operative monitoring. Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation are essential. Coordination of care with the interdisciplinary team, as well as discharge planning and patient education, is necessary. Support within the department includes CNAs assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, and ambulating patients. Unit secretaries will assist with administrative tasks. Charge nurses are assigned to each unit. Resource nurses and RT are available 24/7, along with hospitalists and intensivists. Clinical technology includes an electronic medical record system, IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, and cardiac telemetry monitoring. Floats may be required to all adult med-surg/telemetry units. Scheduling involves weekend rotations, holiday work obligations, and requests for time off require manager approval. Unit culture is described as busy but collaborative, with a focus on teamwork.
