Description:
The RN will work in a MedSurg/Telemetry setting.
The facility is a teaching hospital with a Level 1 trauma designation.
The unit has beds designated for both Med Surg patients and Telemetry patients.
Common patient diagnoses include acute and chronic diseases and post-surgical cases.
Patient ratios are typically 1:4-6 for RNs and LPNs and up to 1:14 for CNAs.
Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, IV maintenance, and patient education.
The RN must possess strong assessment and time management skills.
Telemetry skills are required for monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms.
Experience managing various drips, such as insulin and heparin, is essential.
The RN will coordinate care with an interdisciplinary team and be involved in discharge planning.
Support within the department includes CNAs for patient assistance, along with unit secretaries and other nursing resources.
The unit operates with 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage.
There will be a weekend rotation expected, along with holiday work during major holidays.
Requests for time off must be approved through management.
The unit culture is busy and team-oriented.
