Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 18 months Med/Tele experience License: RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 18 months Med/Tele experience BLS ACLS NIHSS Description: This facility is a licensed medical institution with a total of 457 beds. It is a trauma center and a teaching hospital. The hospital is recognized for excellence in both stroke care and chest pain management. The department consists of 23 beds with an average daily census of 21 patients. Patient types include chest pain, rule-out stroke, syncope, dizziness, and respiratory illnesses. The nurse-to-patient ratio is approximately 1:4-5 during shifts. During the day shift, the CNA-to-patient ratio is 1:7, and on nights, it is 1:10. Skills required for this position include the following: Stroke experience Cardiac rhythm interpretation Tracheostomy care Peripheral IV starts Chest tube management Nasogastric tube placement Drain/tube management, including Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, and foley insertion/management Management of medication drips, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and intravenous fluids The department receives support from supervisors, charge RNs, and a 24/7 respiratory therapy team. Clientists are available 24/7 but are not dedicated to this specific unit. Phlebotomy is a shared responsibility among RNs and the IV team. The electronic medical record system utilized is EPIC. IV pumps are managed with Alaris, and medication dispensing is handled via Omnicell. Traveling nurses should be flexible and adaptable, as they may float to other nursing units based on patient care needs. The unit operates with a strong culture of teamwork and camaraderie. Nurses are encouraged to participate in unit activities, such as book clubs and watch clubs.
