It is a trauma center and a teaching hospital. The hospital is recognized for excellence in both stroke care and chest pain management. The department consists of 23 beds with an average daily census of 21 patients. Patient types include chest pain, rule-out stroke, syncope, dizziness, and respiratory illnesses. The nurse-to-patient ratio is approximately 1:4-5 during shifts. During the day shift, the CNA-to-patient ratio is 1:7, and on nights, it is 1:10. Clientists are available 24/7 but are not dedicated to this specific unit. Phlebotomy is a shared responsibility among RNs and the IV team. The electronic medical record system utilized is EPIC. IV pumps are managed with Alaris, and medication dispensing is handled via Omnicell. Traveling nurses should be flexible and adaptable, as they may float to other nursing units based on patient care needs. The unit operates with a strong culture of teamwork and camaraderie. Nurses are encouraged to participate in unit activities, such as book clubs and watch clubs.
