Med/Tele RN – Job Requirements & Unit Information

Department: Med/Tele
Facility Type: Rural Hospital
Contract: Traveler Assignment
Scheduling: 12-hour shifts; manager scheduled
Shift Options: 36 hours/week or 36/48 hours biweekly

Position Overview

This rural hospital is highly reliant on travel nurses within its Med/Tele units. Leadership has remained consistent for several years and the department is well managed; however, limited staff continuity may present a challenge for some travelers.

The facility is seeking a team-oriented, dependable RN who is willing to work hard, adapt to the needs of the unit, and contribute to providing quality care to the local community.

Auto-offers are available provided the traveler understands that block scheduling cannot be accommodated and is comfortable working in a rural hospital environment.

Unit Information

  • Beds: 25
  • Patient Ratio: 5–6:1
  • Typical Diagnoses/Patient Population: CHF, diabetes, pneumonia, CKD, medical/surgical telemetry
  • Telemetry: Monitor techs monitor patients; RNs must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
  • PCTs: Available; approximately 12:1 ratio
  • Charge/Leadership Support: Charge Nurses, House Supervisors, and Nurse Educators are available

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Tele experience
  • BLS and ACLS required
  • Strong communication and time-management skills
  • Rural hospital experience preferred
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to changing patient-care needs

Drips & Clinical Skills

  • RN titration experience required for Heparin only
  • No other commonly titratable drips required
  • Experience caring for patients requiring:
    • CPAP
    • BiPAP
    • High-flow oxygen

Scheduling & Requirements

  • Shift Length: 12 hours
  • Scheduling: Determined by manager based on facility needs
  • Block Scheduling: Not available
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Required
  • Call/Standby: None
  • Floating: Travelers may float to all Med/Surg units and may be asked to care for Telemetry holds in PCU while awaiting transfer

Orientation

  • Department orientation includes 2 shadow/orientation shifts
  • Kurth Tower consists entirely of Med/Surg Tele units

EMR

  • Current system: Paragon
  • Facility is transitioning to EPIC on October 30, 2026

Dress Code

  • Navy Blue scrubs
