On Call, Call Back Requirements: None
Weekend Rotation: 6 shifts on a 6 week schedule (6 out of 12 shifts)
Holiday Requirements: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
Floating Requirements: all med surg / telemetry units

Unit Information: Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years Med/Tele RN experience
- Will you accept a first-time traveler: Yes
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:- Patients with acute or chronic disease
- Post-op surgeries
- Co-morbidities common to med-surg population: diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, electrolytes imbalances
Patient Ratios:- RN: 1:4-6
- LPN: 1:4-6
- CNA: 2-3 per shift
Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- BCR (Basic Cardiac Rythm) required – meaning traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of Compliance
- ACLS - preferred not required
- National certification- Medical-Surgical certification - preferred
Skills required:- trach chare, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, drips to titrate Heart Rate but not Blood Pressure
- Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for Level 1 Trauma Hospital
- IV insertion and care, central line management
- Wound care and post op monitoring
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
- Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
- Discharge planning and patient education management
Support within the Department:- CNA: Duties: Yes - assist with VS, Glucose Checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, assisting turning patients, hourly rounding, transporting patients as needed (Hospital has designated Transport Team); obtain blood from blood bank
- Receptionist/HUC: Unit secretary on unit 7a-11p; then house wide call secretary 11p-7a
- Charge nurse – may have patients
- Phlebotomy: Most units are lab collect phlebotomy; nurses drawn from CVLs
- IV/VAT Team: Not an IV team - do have a PICC team
- Resource Nurse: Yes, we have discharge nurses, resource team floats to all units
- RT 24/7: yes
- Hospitalist 24/7: yes
- Intensivist 24/7: yes
- Telemetry monitoring/tech: Central Telemetry Unit
Technology/Equipment:- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Med dispensing: Pyxis
- Monitors: Phillips
Unit specific equipment:- VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips Cardiac Telemetry monitoring
- Portable vital signs monitors (Dynamapp)
- Bladder scanners, IV pump, portable oxygen system
- External fixators, chest tubes, JP drains and Hemovac drains
- Glucommander
- PCA pain management
- Suction machine
- Use of admission/ discharge protocol for rapid turnover
Floating: If yes, where:- All adult med surg / telemetry units in house
Orientation (facility and unit):- 1 day orientation with work on educational modules
- 2 days departmental
