Experience reading telemetry strips.
Skills in chest tubes, tracheostomies, PIV starts, drains and tubes, and PCA pumps.
Knowledge of medication management including Amiodarone, Fentanyl, Ketamine, Dilaudid, and Heparin.
Description:
This position is for an RN in the MedSurg/Tele specialty.
The unit has 26 beds.
The patient population includes general medicine cases such as diabetes, gastrointestinal issues, respiratory conditions, renal challenges, and wound care.
Common procedures include dressing changes, chest tube management, tracheostomy care, and lab draws.
RN to patient ratios are 5-6:1, with CNAs supporting at a ratio of 8-9:1.
Support within the department includes CNAs providing basic nursing care and assisting RNs as needed.
A receptionist and charge nurse are available as part of the team.
Phlebotomy is routine, with RNs responsible for STAT draws.
Rapid response teams, hospitalists, and intensivists are available 24/7.
Telemetry monitoring is centralized, with strips reviewed each shift.
Technology includes an electronic medical record system and various medical equipment such as IV pumps and medication dispensers.
The unit fosters a patient-centered culture that emphasizes reliability and teamwork.
