Description:
This position is for an RN specializing in MedSurg/Telemetry.
The facility has 637 licensed beds and is a teaching hospital.
The unit has 30 beds with an average census of 30 patients.
Patient types include post/pre-cardiac patients and step-down ICU patients.
Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and sepsis.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6, with 2-3 CNAs per shift.
Required certifications include BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm).
ACLS is preferred but not required.
Experience with trach care, chest tube management, and IV insertion is essential.
Experience in glucommander, insulin drips, and heparin drips is a plus.
Strong skills in wound care and post-operative monitoring are needed.
Telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring skills are required.
The role includes care coordination with an interdisciplinary team.
Discharge planning and patient education on renal and fluid management is a part of the job.
CNA duties include assistance with vital signs, glucose checks, and patient transport.
A unit secretary will be available during specified hours.
Charge nurses are present on each unit.
The facility has a resource nurse and team for discharge support.
Monitoring and tech services are available 24/7.
Nurses will float to other MedSurg telemetry units as needed.
Weekend rotation requires working 5-6 shifts out of 12 during a 6-week schedule cycle.
The nurse is expected to work one shift during each major holiday.
Requests for time off require manager approval.
Scrubs should be navy for registered nurses.
The unit culture is busy, emphasizing teamwork.
