Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Surgical Nursing/Orthopedic Staff Duration: 8 weeks Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years required, 5 years preferred License: RN license required Certifications: CPR, BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, EKG required Must-Have: Travel experience required Description: Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process within established standards and practices. Assesses and reassesses adult and elderly patients and applies the nursing process. Demonstrates basic competency in specialized procedures and equipment. Provides pre and post-operative care for various surgical patients. Manages pain, cares for chest tubes, and assists with PEG, G-tube, and J-tube care. Provides care for traction and various drainage systems. Administers medications and performs NIH Stroke Scale assessments. Accesses central lines and manages specialized IV drips and titration. Conducts IV therapy and performs testing for blood types. Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation, including patient histories and treatments. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity while maintaining confidentiality. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families. Functions as a patient advocate and provides individualized care that supports physiological functioning. Interacts professionally with patients and families, involving them in the care plan. Formulates teaching plans based on identified learning needs. Supervises other healthcare staff involved in patient care and allocates work accordingly. Assists physicians with procedures as needed. Responds promptly to changes in workload, striving for optimal productivity. Participates in performance improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes. Functions as a preceptor to orient new employees. Maintains operation of patient care equipment and ensures an adequate stock of supplies. Demonstrates flexibility and organization while functioning under stress. Meets all departmental specific competencies and performs housekeeping duties when needed. Assists with the transportation of patients as necessary. Adheres to dress code and infection control policies. Performs other related duties as assigned and serves as a team leader for other staff members.
