Job Summary
Medical Surgical Floor RN * * Location The organization is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse specializing in Medical Surgical Care for a position on an acute care unit. This role involves providing care to adult and geriatric patients with a variety of diagnoses including strokes, hypertension, COPD, CHF, atrial fibrillation, chest pain, and post-ICU cardiac events, among others. The RN will work in a family-oriented unit committed to teamwork and patient support.

  • Position Description:
    Unit notes indicate a core staff responsible for chemotherapy with no in-house oncology provider on current day.
  • Certifications & Qualifications:
    BLS Certification, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS); 2 years of related experience. Valid RN license.
  • Schedule:
    Days shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 48 hours per week.
  • Duties & Responsibilities:
    Provide patient care for adult and geriatric patients, including those with strokes, hypertension, COPD, CHF, atrial fibrillation, chest pain, and cardiac events post-Intensive Care Unit. Support includes troubleshooting ventilator equipment such as BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow, and oxygen therapy. Read and interpret telemetry strips with support from monitor techs.
  • Additional Information:
    Unit maintains a 1:4-5 nurse-to-patient ratio during days and 1:5-6 during nights. Common diagnoses include AMS/behavioral issues, some telemetry, surgical overflow, and general adult care. Float to other MedSurg units may be necessary. RNs are required to have at least 2 years of experience and must be certified in BLS and NIHSS. No specific scrub color, and orientation includes 1-2 shifts on the floor. RTO requests should be made upfront for 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract.
