Job Summary (List Format):

- Provide comprehensive nursing care as required by the medical/surgical unit and scope of service
- Implement nursing procedures and theories specific to the area of practice
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all nursing care and interventions
- Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop individualized care plans based on patient and family needs
- Implement, monitor, and modify patient care plans and nursing interventions as needed
- Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying, reporting, and correcting safety hazards or incidents
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to resolve issues and coordinate care
- Offer feedback and support for the professional development of peers; actively participate in knowledge sharing with colleagues
- Identify personal learning needs and pursue appropriate educational solutions
- Fulfill all departmental competency requirements
- Perform or assist with various therapies and procedures, including IV access (peripheral and central), injections, and equipment management for multiple patient age groups (neonatal to geriatric)
- Set up and assist with unit procedures and use of specialized medical equipment (e.g., chest tubes, PCA machines, glucose monitors, central lines, etc.)
- Respond to emergency situations and function effectively as a team member in urgent care scenarios
- Focus on patient satisfaction through practices like patient rounding, use of whiteboards, and bedside reporting
- Review, transcribe, and implement medical orders promptly while involving patients and families in care decisions
- Participate in bedside shift reporting, ensuring patient input and room safety, and updating patient communication boards
- Delegate tasks to healthcare technicians (HCTs) and validate completion of delegated duties
- Complete and document key RN care activities such as assessments, vital sign interpretation, admissions/discharges, hourly rounding, care plan documentation, and patient education
- Administer medications according to the “5 Rights” (right patient, right medication, right route, right dose, right time)
- Maintain highest standards of patient safety, including compliance with fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation protocols, and ambulation safety
- Promote a positive unit atmosphere that supports a healthy work and healing environment
- Respond promptly to patient call lights, triage requests, and address patient needs efficiently
- Apply critical thinking to assess overall patient condition and act on changes in status using nursing judgment
- Communicate and collaborate within the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure effective patient care coordination and safety

Skills & Experience:
- Minimum one (1) year of relevant nursing experience required

Education:
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) required

Certifications & Licensure:
- Current Illinois RN license in good standing required
- BLS certification (American Heart Association) required

Other Requirements:
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts (6:00 pm – 6:30 am)
- Proficient in English (speaking, reading, writing)

Med Ninjas Job ID #5111. Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
