Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) for a night shift position in an inpatient rehabilitation unit. The successful candidate will provide high-quality care to a diverse patient population with various medical conditions.
Shift Information
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Shift Schedule: 1900 to 0730
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirements: 2/3 for winter holidays and every other for other holidays
Unit Information
- Unit Type: Med Surg (Medical Surgical)
- Patient Capacity: 10 patients with private rooms
- Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:5
- Common Diagnoses: 40% stroke, trauma, orthopedic, neuro, and various disabilities with an average length of stay of 10-14 days
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in an inpatient rehabilitation setting.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and rehabilitation physicians.
- Participate in team conferences around 11 AM to 12 PM.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Monitor patient conditions and report changes as necessary.
Qualifications
- Required Experience: Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience; candidates with prior rehabilitation experience will be favorably considered.
- Certification: BLS (AHA) certification is mandatory.
- Comfortable working as a first-time traveler with rehabilitation experience; medical-surgical nursing experience will also be accepted for first-time travelers.
Additional Information
- CNA support is available during the day and evening shifts; no CNA support during the night shift.
- Registered Nurses will perform nebulizer treatments and administer inhalers; respiratory therapists will handle CPAP and BiPAP management during the night shift.
- Shift rotations may include 12-hour and 8-hour shifts, depending on the needs of the unit.
- Staff may be required to float to similar Med Surg tele units.
- Dress code allows for any clean and professional color of scrubs.
- Orientation includes two 12-hour shifts on the unit.
