Registered Nurse (RN) - Oncology

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to provide exceptional care in a medical-surgical oncology unit. This position involves working with medically complex hematology and oncology patients, administering medications, and managing symptoms and side effects.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough head-to-toe assessments of patients.
• Administer medications and blood products as required.
• Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team and update patients and families on care plans.
• If qualified, administer chemotherapy and manage treatment protocols.
• Participate in patient care alongside a collaborative healthcare team.
• Float to other medical-surgical units as needed within the region.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a large hospital setting (250+ beds).
• Experience in a busy level 1 trauma center is highly preferred.
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Current ND or Compact state RN license or willingness to obtain.
• EPIC electronic health record experience is required.
• Previous travel nursing experience is preferred.
• Experience in inpatient oncology, hematology, and bone marrow transplant is a plus.

Shift Requirements

This position requires a rotating day/night schedule, with 12-hour shifts, and the expectation to work every other weekend and holiday. All staff members are required to badge in and out of the facility.

Patient Care Environment

The unit comprises 16 inpatient oncology beds focusing on hematology and bone marrow transplant patients, with an additional 12 beds currently under remodeling. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:3 for patients receiving chemotherapy or bone marrow transplants, and 1:4-5 for regular oncology patients, averaging 1:4-6 during night shifts.

Training and Orientation

All new hires will complete an 8-hour classroom training, followed by on-the-job orientation that spans 24-36 hours within the unit.

Dress Code

The dress code for this position is navy blue scrubs.
