Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg Oncology

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Med Surg Oncology team. This position involves caring for medically complex hematology and oncology patients, focusing on providing high-quality patient care within a dynamic hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform head-to-toe assessments and manage nursing care for patients.
• Administer medications, blood products, and chemotherapy, if trained.
• Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team (IDT) to update patient and family members.
• Manage symptoms and side effects of treatment in collaboration with healthcare providers.
• Be willing to float to various medical-surgical units as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience in a large hospital setting with 250+ beds.
• Experience in a busy level 1 trauma center is preferred.
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must be AHA certified).
• Valid North Dakota or Compact RN license, or willingness to obtain one.
• Experience with electronic health records (EPIC) is highly desirable.
• Travel nursing experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience in inpatient oncology, hematology, or bone marrow transplant settings is a bonus.

Shift Information

• 12-hour shifts with rotating day and night schedules.
• Every other weekend and holiday required.
• No on-call duty required; nurses will not work alone.

Unit Details

• Care is provided in a 16-bed inpatient oncology unit and a 12-bed unit focused on hematology and bone marrow transplant patients.
• Nurse to patient ratio: 1:3 for patients receiving chemotherapy or BMT; 1:4-5 for regular oncology patients; and 1:4-6 on night shifts.

Training and Orientation

New staff members will undergo an 8-hour classroom training followed by 24-36 hours of unit-specific training to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for this role.

Dress Code

All staff are required to wear navy blue scrubs while on duty.
