Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking an experienced Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in providing exceptional care to patients on the stroke stepdown unit. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical surgical nursing, particularly with stroke patients, and a commitment to continuous improvement in patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from strokes and other related conditions.
• Monitor patients’ vital signs, administer medications, and support them through post-operative and recovery phases.
• Utilize specialty equipment such as IV pumps, feeding tubes, and N/G tubes effectively to support patient care.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create and implement individualized care plans.
• Float to different units as needed based on patient care requirements.

Qualifications:

• Must hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in Medical Surgical units with specific experience in stroke stepdown care.
• Previous travel nursing experience is required.
• Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) are required. NIHSS certification can be obtained prior to starting.
• Proficient in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, specifically EPIC.
• Complete a skills checklist matching the specialty prior to submission.
• Provide a NURSYS report for license verification showcasing an active New York RN license along with any other active RN licenses.

Unit Specifics:

• Common diagnoses include stroke, altered mental status, renal failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), congestive heart failure (CHF), pneumonia, and other pulmonary issues.
• The unit consists of 64 beds catering primarily to adult patients.
• Scrub color required on the unit is navy blue.
