Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Position Overview
OSF HealthCare is seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to provide care to acute medical and surgical patients. The department consists of 2 South (18 beds) and 3 South (22 beds).
The ideal candidate will have strong Med Surg experience, excellent communication and teamwork skills, and preferably previous travel nursing experience.

- Evenings: 1:9–10
- Nights: 1:10–12
Patient Population
The unit cares for a diverse acute-care population, including:
- Pneumonia
- Heart failure
- Sepsis
- COPD
- Urologic conditions
- Surgical patients
- Total joint patients
- General surgery
- Occasional pediatric respiratory illness
Qualifications
- 2+ years of Med Surg experience preferred
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with PCTs
- Ability to work with a diverse acute-care patient population
Required Certifications
- BLS – Required
- ACLS – Required
- PALS – Preferred
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to acute medical and surgical patients.
- Assess patients and communicate changes in condition.
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care.
- Collaborate with PCTs to ensure patient-care activities are completed.
- Participate in approximately 3 daily PCT touchpoints focused on:
- Foley care
- CHG bathing
- Oral care
- Plan of care
- Provide oversight and collaboration with PCTs regarding patient care.
- Monitor and interpret telemetry strips.
- Care for patients requiring stable/home-regimen BiPAP and high-flow oxygen.
- RN drip titration is not required.
Telemetry & Equipment
- Virtual central telemetry monitoring is available.
- RNs are responsible for monitoring their own telemetry strips.
- Telemetry system: Philips
- Respiratory support includes:
- BiPAP for stable patients on a home regimen
- High-flow oxygen
Charge & Support Staff
- Charge Nurse and Administrative Supervisor are available.
- Charge Nurse takes an assignment of approximately 1–2 patients.
- PCTs are available on the unit according to staffing ratios.
Scheduling
12-hour shifts:
- Days: 0700–1930
- Nights: 1900–0730
Weekend: Every other weekend

Day-shift holidays:
- Memorial Day
- July 4th
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
- New Year's Day
Night-shift holidays:
- Memorial Day Eve
- July 3rd
- Labor Day Eve

Low Census
Low-census periods may be assigned in 4-hour increments, with staffing needs reevaluated every 4 hours.
Floating Requirements
RNs may float based on staffing needs.
- May float to the ICU for general acute-care overflow patients.
- May float to the Ottawa Campus, approximately 25 miles from Peru, to support staffing needs.
- Nurses floating to Ottawa Campus will be notified at least 2 hours before the start of the shift.

Orientation
- Unit/department-specific orientation is typically 3 shifts.
OSF Assignment Details
Local Rate
A local rate applies to clinicians whose permanent address is within 50 miles. This results in a $25 reduction to regular and overtime bill rates.
Call-Off Policy
OSF allows the equivalent of 12 hours per 13-week assignment to be called off without penalty or requiring payment for the shift.
Orientation
- 12 orientation hours are non-billable.
- Guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.
Submission Requirements
The following must be provided with submission:
- Last four (4) digits of clinician's SSN
- Clinician's middle initial
- Requested time off
- Active Illinois license or confirmation that the Illinois license application has been initiated
- Confirmation that the candidate understands OSF is a Drug-Free Campus
- Candidate must be able to produce a negative drug screen for all required panels
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced Med Surg RN who is comfortable with acute medical-surgical patients, telemetry monitoring, respiratory support, PCT collaboration, and floating based on facility needs. Strong communication, teamwork, flexibility, and clinical judgment are essential.
