  • Shift Pattern: Every other weekend and every other holiday
  • Call: No call requirement
  • Scheduling: Block scheduling may be accommodated based on operational needs
  • Unit: Medical-surgical setting with approximately 36 private rooms
  • Patient Population: Adults and older adults with COPD, diabetes, heart failure, surgical needs, and behavioral health diagnoses
  • Clinical Equipment: Telemetry monitoring, BiPAP for established users, PICCs, ports, midlines, and ultrasound-guided peripheral IVs
  • Float Expectations: May float to progressive care, emergency, or intensive care areas to support holds and overflow patients according to standard float procedures

Medical-Surgical Travel Nurse Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in the working state or through a compact license
  • At least 1 year of recent RN experience, including general medical-surgical nursing experience
  • Acute-care hospital experience strongly preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Successful completion of a dysrhythmia examination; nurses are responsible for telemetry monitoring and rhythm-strip interpretation
  • Strong assessment, prioritization, medication administration, and care coordination skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams
  • Comfort caring for adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of bedside nursing, including patient repositioning, mobility assistance, standing, walking, and lifting with appropriate support
  • Local candidates are not eligible for this travel nursing assignment
  • Medical-surgical, progressive care, critical care, or stroke-related certifications are welcome but not required

Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessments and identify changes in patient condition
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and update individualized plans of care using the nursing process
  • Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with applicable standards, policies, and scope of practice
  • Monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias, escalating significant changes promptly
  • Care for patients with medical, surgical, cardiac, respiratory, diabetic, and behavioral health needs
  • Manage patients receiving therapies such as Lasix, amiodarone, Cardizem, and heparin according to orders and protocol
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding medications, treatments, disease processes, and discharge plans
  • Coordinate care with providers, patient support services, nursing assistants, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Advocate for patient safety, privacy, dignity, and culturally responsive care
  • Recognize limitations, seek assistance when needed, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
  • Support safe transitions of care by addressing discharge and continuing-care needs
  • Float to designated areas when needed while maintaining safe, evidence-based nursing practice
