Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

The organization is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for a skilled nursing home unit. The nurse will work in an environment with a focus on geriatric care, ensuring high-quality patient assessments and interventions.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments, including monitoring blood pressure, blood glucose levels, and assessing peripheral pulses.
• Administer medications, including insulin and oral medications, while ensuring safe practices for all patients.
• Provide care for patients with feeding tubes, Foley catheters, colostomy, and ileostomy management.
• Monitor and manage patients experiencing diabetes mellitus type II, including recognition of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.
• Perform wound assessments and implement appropriate care measures to promote healing.
• Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and safety measures.
• Participate in patient and family education regarding care plans and health management.
• Respond to emergency procedures and protocols whenever necessary.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
• First-time travelers with skilled experience are welcomed.
• Required certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Experience with PointClickCare documentation system is essential.
• Prior experience in Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC) is required.
• Skills in geriatric care, diabetes management, and wound care are preferred.
• Experience with additional specialized procedures and conditions such as nephrostomy tubes, Alzheimer’s disease, and palliative care is a plus.

Work Schedule

The position is a 5x8 evening shift from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with a total of 36 hours available. Candidates should be prepared to work every other weekend and must attend a required unit orientation of 24 hours, as well as a thorough hospital orientation in the first week of employment.

Patient Population

The unit specializes in geriatric care with an average daily census of 36 patients. The staffing ratio is 1:40 at night, with a more manageable 1:20 during evening medication administration.

Scrubs

Uniforms will consist of navy blue scrubs.

Interview Process

Candidates must provide their interview availability for the next 72 hours upon submission. A manager interview is required before any offers are made.
