Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Long Term Acute Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS; ACLS preferred, but not required Must-Have: Experience with PEG tube care/feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline usage and care, and tracheostomy patients. Description: This position is in a Long Term Acute Care setting. The nurse-patient ratio is 1:5. Common patient diagnoses include respiratory failure, post-surgical care, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-stroke care, post-trauma care, and cardiac patients. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Heparin. A House Supervisor is available 24/7. Nurse aides/patient care technicians are present on the unit with a ratio of 1:10. RNs will troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPap, and high flow devices. Telemetry is monitored by a Technician stationed in the ICU. Nursing staff is required to read their own strips using housewide telemetry packs. The shifts are 12 hours and are scheduled from 7 PM to 7:30 AM. Weekend and holiday rotation is required. Qualified medical-surgical nurses may float to ICU, and medical-surgical nurses may float to acute rehab as needed. Scrubs are provided, with only approved t-shirts permitted in any color. Orientation includes classroom instruction and shifts with a preceptor on the unit. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN degree is not required for this position.
