Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Wisconsin
  • At least 1 year of professional nursing experience; 2 or more years of bedside clinical experience highly preferred
  • Long-term acute care, critical care, rehabilitation, or medically complex patient care experience preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before the first shift
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required before the first shift when applicable to the assigned setting
  • Strong patient assessment, clinical judgment, documentation, communication, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate effectively, and provide safe nursing care during overnight shifts

LTAC Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive nursing assessments within required timeframes and develop individualized plans of care
  • Deliver direct patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Monitor medically complex patients, recognize changes in condition, and communicate promptly with appropriate care team members
  • Document assessments, nursing interventions, patient responses, and care-plan updates accurately and in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, rehabilitation professionals, and the interdisciplinary team to promote quality outcomes
  • Provide patient and family education based on identified health needs and anticipated discharge goals
  • Initiate discharge planning from admission and support safe transitions of care
  • Provide direction, training, delegation, and supervision to ancillary nursing personnel within scope and policy
  • Prioritize patient safety, infection prevention, safe patient handling, and a secure care environment
  • Participate in team conferences, care coordination, quality initiatives, and ongoing professional development
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities after orientation when requested and appropriate
