Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Ohio
  • At least 1 year of professional bedside nursing experience required; 2 or more years of bedside clinical experience highly preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before the first shift
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required before the first shift
  • Demonstrated ability to care for patients with complex, chronic, and medically intensive conditions in an LTAC or comparable acute care setting
  • Strong patient assessment, clinical judgment, communication, organization, and nursing documentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members

LTAC Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive nursing assessments for patients upon admission and throughout the plan of care.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and update individualized nursing care plans based on patient needs and clinical outcomes.
  • Provide direct patient care while supporting rehabilitation goals, patient safety, comfort, and quality outcomes.
  • Monitor patient conditions and communicate significant changes promptly to the appropriate members of the care team.
  • Document assessments, nursing interventions, patient responses, and ongoing care accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary conferences and provide meaningful updates regarding patient progress and goals.
  • Initiate discharge planning from admission and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers in preparation for transition of care.
  • Delegate appropriately and provide direction, training, and supervision to ancillary nursing personnel.
  • Promote safe patient handling, infection prevention, fall prevention, and a safe clinical environment.
  • Prioritize care activities, manage time effectively, maintain necessary supplies, and support efficient LTAC unit operations.
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities following orientation when requested and participate in ongoing professional development.
