Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: LDRP Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights, every other week Hours per Shift: 48 Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate (Advanced preferred), STABLE Must-Have: 3 years of experience in LDRP Description: The department consists of 7 labor and delivery beds. There are 12 postpartum beds and 8 surgical beds available. One dedicated OR is available for C-Sections, along with 2 GYN surgical ORs. The unit has 3 triage beds, averaging 17 patients per month. Annual births in the department are approximately 643. The nurse-to-patient ratio follows the AWHONN guidelines: 1:1-2 in L&D and 1:2-3 for couplets in postpartum. Occasional higher-risk patients are accepted. Common conditions include obstetric issues, antepartum concerns, and postpartum management. Experience with magnesium sulfate and preeclampsia is essential. Nurses will regularly manage patients with gestational hypertension and diabetes. The RN will perform inpatient postpartum care and assist with vaginal and C-section deliveries. Nurses are expected to titrate drips and manage common medications such as pitocin and magnesium. There is a charge nurse on each shift, who will also manage an assignment and assist with deliveries. Nurses are encouraged to scrub when needed. OB and neonatologists are available 24/7, along with anesthesia support. RNs will be required to troubleshoot RT equipment as needed. The unit includes remote telemetry capabilities, although tele patients are infrequent. Nurses are expected to read telemetry strips during post-operative recovery. The EFM system includes various models for monitoring fetal heart rates. Scheduling is rotational, with shifts planned six weeks in advance for adequate sleep. Weekend and holiday work is required as needed, with an option for additional shifts. Floating may be required to various other departments, including pediatric and medical-surgical units. Surgical scrubs will be provided for all staff. High patient satisfaction is emphasized within the department. All candidates must be within a 50-mile radius and cannot be employed full-time in other healthcare facilities associated with the organization. Requests for time off should be submitted upfront. Cancellation policy allows for 4 shifts per contract. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN degree is not required for this position. This is an acute care setting. The trauma level for this role is 2.
