Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 26 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Compact license required Certifications: BLS, FHM, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate, ACLS (preferred) Must-Have: Epic experience required Description: Travelers are required to work 1 of 3 holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Eve, New Year’s Eve). This unit offers a supportive environment with team camaraderie, book clubs, and group dinners. Previous experience in charge roles is beneficial. Patients may present with labor or preterm labor. The nurse will circulate for OB-GYN procedures and manage post-operative and pre-operative care. The unit consists of 8 labor rooms and 4 triage rooms. Travelers may float to postpartum units or other labor and delivery areas as needed. The staffing ratio is 1:1 to 1:3 depending on patient acuity. The nurse will administer medications and blood products, manage epidural pumps, and provide care in high-risk deliveries. Skills in triaging obstetrical patients and maintaining central lines are essential. Patient age groups include adolescents, infants, and adults. Additional procedures include cardioversion/defibrillation, wound care, and managing insulin drips and magnesium sulfate therapy. This role may involve attendance at all deliveries and support in the transition nursery. Required skills also include assessment and management of pain, assisting with high-risk deliveries, and performing sterile vaginal exams. Floating between nearby facilities may be a requirement of the position.
