Job Summary
Join a dedicated Maternal Child Health team at the Cayuga Birthplace in Ithaca, New York. This modern facility, located on the first floor, features six Labor and Delivery Rooms, two Labor Triage Rooms, eleven Postpartum Rooms, and a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, including four single-family NICU rooms designed for individualized, family-centered infant care. The suite also includes a Cesarean Section Surgical Operating Room and PACU.
The Registered Nurse will provide direct patient care to a diverse patient population within the Maternal Child Health department, primarily focusing on mother/baby couplets in the Postpartum unit. This role involves comprehensive patient assessment, care planning, and implementation, working collaboratively with unit leadership to ensure adherence to professional nursing standards and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct, person-centered patient care to a designated group of patients within the Maternal Child Health department.
- Collaborate with Unit leadership to adhere to the scope of practice for nursing governing bodies, including AWONN, ACOG, NNA, and AORN.
- Conduct thorough patient and family assessments, encompassing physical, psychological, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs.
- Collect and analyze patient data, recognizing normal parameters, deviations, and abnormalities based on clinical experience.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans, effectively prioritizing nursing care to meet patient and family needs.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills in making appropriate clinical decisions, prioritizing planned and unplanned events, and proactively addressing potential and actual problems.
- Execute technical skills required for the care of maternal and neonatal patients and their families.
- Maintain current knowledge of facility policies, procedures, and standards.
- Act as a resource to peers and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to attain care goals.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Postpartum experience.
- Ability to independently care for mother/baby couplets.
- Ability to float or be cross-trained to Labor & Delivery and/or NICU as needed.
