Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery
Job Summary
Join a dedicated Maternal Child Health team at a comprehensive Birthplace facility in Ithaca, New York. This modern unit, opened in 2014, is equipped with six Labor and Delivery Rooms, two Labor Triage rooms, eleven Postpartum Rooms, a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) featuring four single-family rooms, and an integrated Cesarean Section Surgical Operating Room and PACU.
As a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct, person-centered patient care across the Maternal Child Health spectrum. This includes supporting patients and families through labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonatal care. The team is cross-trained across Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and NICU, fostering a versatile and collaborative environment dedicated to individualized and family-centered infant care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to a designated group of patients within the Maternal Child Health department.
- Collaborate with unit leadership to adhere to the scope of practice for nursing governing bodies, including AWONN, ACOG, NNA, and AORN.
- Perform comprehensive patient and family assessments, recognizing normal parameters, deviations, and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental, and behavioral status.
- Utilize the nursing process (observation, data collection, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to address patients' physical, psychological, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans using a person-centered approach, prioritizing patient and family needs and involving them in establishing care goals.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills by making appropriate clinical decisions, prioritizing planned and unplanned events, and proactively addressing potential and actual problems.
- Act as a resource to peers and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration with other healthcare team members and services to attain care goals.
- Maintain current knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and standards.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Demonstrated experience in Labor and Delivery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Postpartum care.
- Cross-training or experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Shift Details
- Shift Type: PM (Evenings/Nights)
- Shift Duration: 8 hours
- Days per Week: 5 days
- Start Time: 6:45 PM
- End Time: 7:15 AM
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (September 14, 2026 - December 13, 2026)
- Weekend Rotation: No maximum weekend requirement.
- Floating: Expected on a rotational basis to other hospital departments outside Maternal Child Health (Labor & Delivery, L&D OR/PACU, Postpartum, NICU).
- Scheduling: Based on unit needs; specific day-of-week scheduling requirements will not be considered. Block scheduling is not guaranteed but may be considered upon request.
Licensing Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
