Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Advanced AWHONN preferred Must-Have: Strong ability to manage emergencies and work independently. Ability to handle a patient load during night shifts with fewer resources available. Description: The position requires managing patients in the Labor and Delivery unit. You will be responsible for delivering care to mothers and newborns. The ratio for L&D is 1:2, with 1:1 during active delivery. The position also covers couplets in the Mother-Baby unit with a ratio of 1:4. The unit typically experiences about 45 deliveries a month. Common cases include term, preterm deliveries, and general GYN patients. Newborns may need short-term IV antibiotics and/or oxygen. Shifts are from 18:45 to 07:15. You will not have self-scheduling options, but schedules are posted 6 weeks in advance. Reporting is done at the bedside. There will be no floating to other units. The facility does not provide nurse aides. Telehealth and ventilators are not available on the unit. Anesthesia and OB services are on-call during night shifts. There is a Rapid Response team available 24/7. Pharmacy services are available from 06:30 to 22:00, with an on-call pharmacist. Block scheduling is generally not an option, but you can make yourself available for extra shifts or trade with other staff. You will have 2-3 days of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor. The facility transfers mothers who are 34 weeks or below to a designated hospital. Strong critical thinking and emergency response skills are essential for this role. This position requires participation in major holiday rotations.
