Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse specializing in Labor & Delivery to join our dedicated team in Mauston, Wisconsin. This role is integral to providing exceptional care for maternal and newborn patients throughout their antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum phases within a hospital environment.
The successful candidate will manage a diverse patient population, performing initial assessments, monitoring labor progression, and providing expert care during delivery and immediate postpartum recovery. This position also involves cross-training to support Med Surg and EICU units as needed, requiring adaptability and a broad clinical skill set to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete comprehensive nursing histories and patient assessments, developing and implementing individualized plans of care.
- Accurately triage patient care based on presenting symptoms and acuity.
- Administer medications safely and precisely according to physician orders and hospital policy.
- Assess and manage labor progression, including induction and cervical ripening procedures.
- Perform and accurately interpret fetal heart monitoring.
- Manage high-risk obstetric conditions such as pregnancy-induced hypertension and gestational diabetes.
- Respond effectively to obstetric emergencies, including but not limited to prolapsed cord, breech delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, precipitous delivery, uterine rupture, meconium aspiration, abruptio placenta, and placenta previa.
- Assess newborn conditions, identifying situations requiring heightened surveillance or a higher level of care.
- Perform neonatal resuscitation within the scope of practice and certification guidelines.
- Recognize and manage neonatal complications such as sepsis, hypoglycemia, hypothermia, and jaundice.
- Provide thorough patient and family education regarding maternal and newborn care.
- Promptly identify and communicate changes in patient status to the healthcare provider.
- Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary care team to optimize patient outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
