Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 6 PM to 6 AM Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 Years License: Active Registered Nurse License in the State of Colorado Certifications: BLS & NRP Required, ACLS Certification Preferred Must-Have: - Maintain a current, active license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado. - Two years of experience is required. - Minimum of an Associate's Degree (ADN) from an accredited nursing program. Description: Work where others vacation, in a beautiful setting. The Labor and Delivery Nurse independently assesses and evaluates the health status of both labor and neonate patients using objective and subjective data. Identifying healthcare problems is a critical aspect of the role. Through the care planning process, the Nurse collaborates with the patient, family, providers, and others on the healthcare team. This collaboration helps establish realistic and measurable short and long-term goals. The Nurse prioritizes needs through planning and implementation of all interventions, which include patient education and counseling. Maintaining safe and effective care throughout the episode of care is essential. The Nurse institutes standard procedures that stabilize each patient's condition and prevent serious complications in emergency situations. Each intervention is evaluated and documented to determine the outcome of care. The Nurse acts as a patient advocate. Essential Duties: Directly provides patient care and monitors the patient's response to labor, delivery, and postpartum phases of pregnancy. Assists and educates in breastfeeding as needed. Promotes wellness for mothers during pregnancy and after delivery through continuous education. Provides education to mothers about infant care. Documents all events and education in the patient medical record using computers. Communicates the patient's condition verbally and in writing to the physician and nursing supervisor. Assists other staff in maintaining skills and learning new procedures and equipment. Collaborates with nursery staff in the care of the mother/baby couplet. Assists providers with procedures. Assists nursing leadership as requested. Helps staff with emergencies in other nursing units when possible. Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment for all patients in the unit. Physical Activities & Requirements: The physical demands of this job require regular use of hands for handling, talking, and hearing. Frequent standing, reaching with hands and arms, and stooping, kneeling, or crouching are also required. Occasional walking or sitting may be necessary. The ability to smell is required to detect changes in odors. The Nurse must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision for reading medical records and monitors. Color vision is required to observe patients for changes and fluid colors. Peripheral vision is necessary to observe surroundings while providing patient care. Adjusting focus between patients and other areas is also essential.
