Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Registered Nurse to join our team in Atlantic, Iowa. This role primarily focuses on providing comprehensive nursing care to obstetric patients across labor & delivery, postpartum, and recovery units.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in managing the unique needs of mothers and newborns, ensuring a safe and supportive environment throughout the birthing process and immediate postpartum period. A key aspect of this position involves the flexibility to float to the Medical-Surgical unit to provide general patient care when the obstetric census is low, requiring a broad skill set and a commitment to patient-centered care across different specialties.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to laboring mothers, postpartum patients, and newborns, adhering to established protocols and standards.
- Monitor maternal and fetal vital signs, progress of labor, and newborn status, escalating concerns as appropriate.
- Assist physicians during delivery and provide immediate care and assessment to newborns.
- Educate patients and families on postpartum recovery, newborn care, breastfeeding, and discharge instructions.
- Administer medications, perform treatments, and manage intravenous lines as prescribed.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient documentation in the electronic health record.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, midwives, and other healthcare team members to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Float to the Medical-Surgical unit as needed to provide general acute care to adult patients, including medication administration, wound care, and patient monitoring.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Prior experience in Labor & Delivery.
- Ability to float to the Medical-Surgical unit as required.
