The role involves supervising and directing the activities of various levels of assigned nursing staff. The nurse will coordinate care with other disciplines while utilizing critical thinking, professional discretion, and independent judgment. The essential functions include collecting relevant data pertinent to patient health or situation. The nurse will analyze assessment data to determine diagnosis and care issues. Developing a plan that prescribes interventions to achieve outcomes is a key duty. The RN will implement the care plan, coordinate care delivery, and promote a safe environment for patients. Evaluating progress toward attaining outcomes is required. Identifying outcomes for patients or their situations is part of the role. Collaboration with the patient, family, and healthcare providers is essential to provide safe and humane care. The RN will provide learning opportunities for patients and their families as well as team members. Direct health information will be provided to patients, families, and the treatment team. Participation in discharge planning is necessary for continuity of care. The nurse will delegate appropriately and coordinate duties of healthcare team members.
