Description: Department uses a float model in LDRP. There are 15 total beds: 7 for labor and delivery and 8 for postpartum. The unit has one operating room suite for C-sections. There are approximately 58 births per month. The department follows AWHONN guidelines for staffing ratios: 1:1 for patients on pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips, and 1:3 for couplet care. Common patient diagnoses include obstetric cases and neonatal care, with conditions such as hypertension and gestational diabetes. Nurses are required to read and interpret electronic fetal monitors. Critical thinking skills and the ability to follow quality metrics are essential. Nurses will float to Medsurg and ER when required. RN duties include titrating medications, such as pitocin, insulin, and magnesium. There is a charge nurse on each shift who also takes an assignment. Nurse aides and surgical techs are present to assist with tasks such as taking vitals and facilitating patient transfers. No OB/neonatologist or anesthesia services are available in-house 24/7. Respiratory therapy equipment is available, although RNs are not required to operate it outside of troubleshooting. Telemetry monitoring is done manually by RNs, and electronic monitoring is utilized through a specified system. Shifts are 0645 to 1915 and 1845 to 0715; block scheduling is allowed, but self-scheduling is not available. Weekend and holiday work is required on an every-other basis. Nurses must adapt to change and demonstrate strong communication skills to succeed in this role. The facility has a radius rule of 50 miles for applicants. Additional requested time off must be provided upfront, and no further approvals will be granted after submissions. Shifts can be canceled per policy during assigned periods.
