Roles and Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout antepartum, labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum periods
  • Perform thorough maternal and fetal assessments and continuously monitor patient condition
  • Monitor fetal heart rate patterns, uterine activity, maternal vital signs, and other clinical indicators
  • Recognize and promptly respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and changes in maternal condition
  • Assist with vaginal and cesarean deliveries according to clinical protocols
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, oxytocin, antibiotics, and other prescribed therapies safely
  • Monitor patients receiving labor induction and augmentation therapies
  • Assist with epidural and other anesthesia-related procedures while monitoring patient response
  • Provide labor support, pain management, comfort measures, and patient education
  • Recognize and respond to obstetric emergencies, including postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia/eclampsia, fetal distress, and other complications
  • Assist with emergency interventions and participate in obstetric emergency and code situations
  • Provide immediate postpartum assessment and care for mothers
  • Support newborn stabilization and collaborate with neonatal staff when additional care is required
  • Promote skin-to-skin contact, breastfeeding, and evidence-based maternal-newborn practices
  • Educate patients and families regarding labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and discharge planning
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, neonatal teams, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals
  • Follow infection prevention, medication safety, HIPAA, and patient safety standards
Qualifications
  • Active Utah Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience
  • Current BLS Certification required
  • Current ACLS Certification required
  • Current NRP Certification required
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) Certification preferred or required by facility
  • Strong knowledge of maternal-fetal assessment and labor management
  • Experience with fetal heart rate monitoring and interpretation
  • Experience caring for high-risk obstetric patients preferred
  • Strong knowledge of obstetric emergencies and interventions
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Excellent clinical judgment, critical-thinking, and assessment skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to remain calm and effective during high-acuity deliveries and emergencies
  • Comfortable working night shifts
