The clinician may rotate between day, evening, and night shifts as needed. The role encompasses Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Newborn Care, and circulating in the operating room. The patient-to-clinician ratio is 1:2-3 for evaluations, and 1:1 for active labor with specific protocols (e.g., magnesium infusion or epidural). In the Postpartum area, the ratio is 1:3-4. The unit consists of 25 total beds, including labor rooms and postpartum rooms. The average daily census is 15-25 mothers and babies. Charting is done using a specific electronic medical record system. Floating between units is not required. Rotating shifts are a part of the role, as straight day positions are not available. Continuous professional development and adherence to certification requirements are essential for this role.
