Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 15 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active state nursing license or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS, NRP, ACLS, Advanced AWHONN EFM class required Must-Have: Proficiency in care of high-risk obstetric patients, experience with Magnesium and Insulin drips, ability to circulate cesarean sections and recover patients in PACU, and proficiency in newborn care Description: The Labor and Delivery department handles a diverse population of pregnant patients, including high-risk cases. The unit has nine labor delivery rooms, two operating suites for cesarean sections, and six triage rooms. There is a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio during Pitocin induction and active labor, and a 2:1 ratio during vaginal and cesarean deliveries. Each shift has a charge nurse who does not take patient assignments. Patients requiring ventilatory support are transferred to the ICU. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips, including Pitocin, Magnesium, and Insulin. The team includes surgical technicians to assist during procedures. There is 24/7 coverage by a labor hospitalist and newborn hospitalists with NICU support available for emergencies. RNs must be capable of reading electronic fetal monitoring strips and be familiar with the Epic Stork system. Every third weekend and every other holiday is required for scheduling. Registered Nurses may float to postpartum and antepartum units as needed. Surgical scrubs are provided, and the department conducts three shifts of orientation for new staff. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential in this role.
