Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to antepartum and intrapartum patients in a Labor and Delivery unit with 11 labor rooms and 5 triage rooms; OB triage assignments are not required for contract staff
• Manage high-acuity obstetric conditions including pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes, malpresentations, multiple gestation, and VBAC management
• Perform and assist with clinical procedures including sterile vaginal exams, external and internal fetal monitoring, IUPC placement and calibration, spiral electrode placement, and recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns using PeriWatch and Philips Avalon fetal monitoring systems
• Administer medications and therapies including Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin (oxytocin), antihypertensives, insulin drips, prostaglandins, terbutaline, and blood/blood products; manage IV access, infusion pumps, and drips
• Assist with and circulate for vaginal deliveries, C-sections, forceps/vacuum extractions, and high-risk deliveries; perform neonatal resuscitation and support thermoregulation with radiant warmers
• Float to the postpartum unit as needed to provide couplet care or care for postpartum patients only; fulfill on-call and weekend shift obligations per the 6-week schedule

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in both Kansas and Missouri, or a compact license covering both states, required at time of submission
• Required certifications: BLS, Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Minimum of 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience; first-time travelers are not accepted for this role
• Proficiency across a broad range of L&D skills including antepartum care, triage of obstetrical patients, hemorrhage/shock management, epidural and general anesthesia support, and postpartum care
• Availability to meet weekend requirements (4-5 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period) and a minimum of 2 on-call shifts per 6-week schedule period
• Must live at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• LDRP experience strongly preferred due to the unit's combined Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum layout; candidates with L&D or LDR experience only will also be considered
• Familiarity with PeriWatch fetal monitoring application and Philips Avalon fetal monitors
• Experience with postpartum and post-operative GYN patient care
• Prior travel nursing experience in a high-volume obstetric setting (facility volume of 100-300 births/month)
