Description:
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver.
This role assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.
The nurse provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the institution's philosophy.
Responsibilities include performing all duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.
The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided is essential.
Completing initial assessments upon patient admission is required to develop appropriate plans of care.
Plans of care should be in accordance with unit standards and based on patient and family needs.
The nurse implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
Plans of care must be modified based upon continuous evaluation.
The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
Effective communication with colleagues is required to resolve issues.
Offering constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers is encouraged.
RNs should confer with colleagues to expand their knowledge base.
Identifying personal learning needs and taking initiative to begin appropriate solutions is vital.
Fulfilling all requirements of departmental competencies is necessary.
Department-specific functions include providing care to inpatient obstetric patients.
Monitoring fetal well-being is a key responsibility.
The nurse will administer medication specific to the obstetric patient.
