Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 20 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years; prefers 3 years License: Current RN License Certifications: BCLS, AWHONN Intermediate, NRP Must-Have: Must have experience with more than 300 births per month. Experience in a high-volume similar setting is preferred. Competence in immediate newborn care is required. Ability to circulate and perform sterile vaginal exams is necessary. First-time travelers are accepted with relevant experience. Description: RTO after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out on site. Any call-offs or additional RTO could possibly result in a cancellation or DNR. This unit is fast-paced and difficult. Double labor assignments are a daily occurrence. Ratios are 2:1 with an average of 20 births in 24 hours. Expect 30-40 admits and 40 visits per day, with 20 rooms available. Candidates are required to work a minimum of 6 weekend shifts every 6-week schedule. Patient diagnoses include obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum care and high-risk antepartum and postpartum care. The birthing care unit has a triage unit for screening patients before admission. Routine outpatient procedures include antenatal fetal surveillance and medication administration. Both scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births are performed. The unit is very fast-paced, busier, and has higher acuity than might be normally expected. Strongly prefers RNs with experience circulating in the operating room. Candidates must be open to floating within the women’s unit as needed. All RTO must be pre-approved, and candidates cannot request additional RTO after signing.
