Required certifications for Labor and Delivery and OB units.
Ability to care for laboring patients, perform triage, and provide mother-baby care.
Description:
BLS, NRP, and Fetal Heart Monitoring are required.
Nurse will assist with 15-17 births per month.
Nurse will provide care in Labor and Delivery as well as in Mother-Baby, Newborn Nursery, and Couplet Care.
Nurse will also care for gynecology surgery patients.
The role may include floating to Med/Surg if there are no patients available.
If the nurse is not comfortable taking patients in Med/Surg, they will assist with vitals, passing medications, and other tasks.
RN will perform all responsibilities within their scope for laboring patients, triaging, and mother-baby care.
Support from LPN will be available; however, LPN cannot labor, triage patients, or perform initial assessments.
LPN can assist with EFM evaluations, patient positioning, baby nursing, answering questions, and documentation.
The initial assessment must be validated by the RN.
In case of emergencies, LPN typically accompanies patients to the OR, allowing the RN to remain on the unit for triage.
Excellent support and resources are available when needed, and creativity is encouraged in this small unit.
