Description:
The unit has 9 labor and delivery beds, 3 swing rooms, and 2 operating rooms.
It also includes 3 beds for obstetrical emergency department use.
Patient ratios are 1 nurse to 2 patients.
The staffing includes unit secretaries, scrub techs, dedicated CRNA, midwife in-house 24/7, and OB on call.
The unit utilizes a documentation system.
Staff will be required to work 4 weekend shifts per month.
Floating to maternity/birth or outside tasks may be required.
Patient experience scores need to remain above 75%.
Required procedures include circulating in OR, IUPC, FSE, and MgSO4.
Additionally, knowledge on postpartum hemorrhage and nitrous oxide use is beneficial.
The unit has received recognition as a unit of distinction and has participated in pilot programs.
The care model includes personalized birth experiences with 24/7 midwives and dedicated anesthesia support.
Couplet care is performed in the postpartum unit to keep newborns with their parents.
There is a Level 2 NICU with a neonatology nurse practitioner dedicated to the unit 24/7.
The NNP is available to attend all high-risk deliveries as needed.
