We are seeking an experienced Travel Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality nursing care to pregnant patients, women in labor, and postpartum patients in a California hospital setting. The L&D RN will monitor maternal and fetal status, assist with labor and delivery, administer medications, and collaborate closely with physicians, midwives, anesthesiologists, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced L&D RN seeking a travel assignment in California.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period.
  • Perform maternal and fetal assessments and continuously monitor fetal heart rate and uterine activity as indicated.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to changes in maternal or fetal condition.
  • Assist with vaginal and cesarean deliveries, including preparation of patients, equipment, and delivery rooms.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and other treatments according to physician orders and hospital policies.
  • Manage epidurals and assist with anesthesia-related care within the RN's scope of practice.
  • Provide care for high-risk pregnancies and patients experiencing obstetric complications.
  • Assist with induction and augmentation of labor, including administration and monitoring of oxytocin when appropriate.
  • Perform cervical assessments and document labor progression.
  • Support patients and families through labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
  • Provide education regarding labor, delivery, breastfeeding, newborn care, medications, and postpartum recovery.
  • Recognize obstetric emergencies and participate in emergency interventions, including hemorrhage response, fetal distress management, and other critical situations.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, certified nurse-midwives, neonatology staff, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete electronic medical records and nursing documentation.
  • Follow hospital policies, infection-control standards, patient-safety procedures, and California nursing regulations.
  • Participate in newborn care and stabilization as required by the facility and assignment.

Qualifications

  • Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility to practice in California.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • NRP certification preferred or required depending on facility.
  • ACLS certification preferred or required depending on facility.
  • Previous Labor & Delivery RN experience required.
  • Experience with high-risk obstetrics, fetal monitoring, cesarean deliveries, and obstetric emergencies preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different hospital policies, electronic medical-record systems, and clinical workflows.
