RN – Labor & Delivery | High-Risk L&D
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join a high-volume Perinatal/L&D unit specializing in high-risk pregnancies and deliveries.
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of recent L&D experience, strong high-risk obstetric experience, and be comfortable caring for patients with complex maternal and fetal conditions. Previous travel nursing experience is preferred.
Unit & Department Details
- Department: Labor & Delivery / Postpartum – Perinatal
- L&D Beds: 12
- Triage Beds: 10
- Antepartum Beds: 12
- Birth Volume: Approximately 200 births per month
- Fetal Monitoring System: Fetal Link
- EMR: Cerner
- Patient Population: High-risk pregnancies, 20 weeks gestation and above
- The facility is one of the largest birth centers in California
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of recent L&D experience – Required
- Strong experience with high-risk deliveries – Required
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
- Candidates should be prepared to discuss the specific types of high-risk deliveries they have managed.
High-Risk Patient Population May Include:
- Hypertensive disorders / high blood pressure
- Multiple gestations
- Diabetes
- Limited or no prenatal care
- Substance abuse
- Other complex maternal and fetal conditions
Required Certifications
All certifications below are required:
- BLS
- ACLS
- NRP
- Advanced Fetal Monitoring
Clinical Skills
Candidates should be highly proficient in:
- Advanced fetal heart monitoring
- High-risk labor management
- Maternal and fetal assessment
- Pitocin administration
- Magnesium Sulfate
- Insulin drips
- Management of high-risk obstetric patients
- Emergency obstetric interventions
- Postpartum care
C-Section Experience
C-section experience is required.
- Circulating experience is required
- Scrubbing experience is preferred
- Must be comfortable assisting with operative deliveries and maintaining sterile technique
Staffing & Support
- Patient Ratios: Follow AWHONN guidelines
- Charge Nurse: Yes; charge nurses may take a patient assignment when needed
- OB Techs: 2 scheduled per shift
- Assist with deliveries
- Scrub for C-sections
- Stock supplies
- OB Physicians: 2 attending OB physicians in-house 24/7
- Neonatologist: In-house 24/7
- RT: 24/7 support from NICU
- Pharmacy: 24/7
- IV Team: No
Schedule
- Shift: 12-hour shifts
- Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM / 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Call: None
- Holidays: 1 major holiday and 2 minor holidays
Floating Requirements
L&D RNs may be required to float to:
Candidates should be comfortable providing care outside the primary L&D unit when needed.
Orientation
- Unit-specific orientation: 3 shifts on the unit

Scrubs & Appearance
- Scrubs are provided by the facility.
- Appropriate sterile attire is required for applicable procedures.
- Acrylic nails and nail overlays are not permitted during the assignment.
Key Candidate Requirements
- 2+ years recent L&D experience
- High-risk L&D experience
- C-section circulating experience
- Advanced fetal monitoring competency
- BLS, ACLS, and NRP
- Experience with Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and insulin drips
- Comfortable caring for high-risk patients 20+ weeks gestation
- Willingness to float to Antepartum/Postpartum
- Every-other-weekend commitment
- Travel experience preferred
