Required Licenses & Certifications
- Active RN License in the state of employment or a Compact RN License
- AHA BLS – Required
- NRP – Current certification required
- ACLS – Current certification required
- Current certification from one of the following:
- AWHONN Intermediate FHM Instructor
- AWHONN Instructor Trainer
- NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM)
- For C-EFM, certification must be received within 1 month after the test passing date.
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios
Based on AWHONN standards:
- 1:1 – Pitocin for induction or augmentation
- 1:2 – Cervical ripening (Cytotec or low-dose Pitocin)
- 1:2–3 – Antepartum, depending on acuity
- 1:2–3 – Triage
- 1:1 – Immediate postpartum, including mother and baby, for 2 hours post-birth
Weekend Requirement
- Weekend coverage is required.
- No on-call requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to laboring, antepartum, and postpartum patients.
- Monitor maternal and fetal status throughout labor and delivery.
- Manage patients receiving Pitocin for induction or augmentation.
- Perform and interpret fetal monitoring according to facility protocols and current standards.
- Assist with vaginal and cesarean deliveries as needed.
- Provide immediate postpartum care for mother and newborn.
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately.
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives, neonatal teams, and other healthcare professionals.
- Provide patient and family education regarding labor, delivery, postpartum care, and newborn care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR.
- Respond appropriately to obstetric emergencies and changes in maternal or fetal condition.
