Labor & Delivery RN Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Pennsylvania
• At least 1 year of recent Labor & Delivery, L&D, or maternity nursing experience
• Experience caring for both Labor & Delivery and NICU patients, with the willingness and ability to float between both areas
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Demonstrated fetal monitoring experience; a separate fetal monitoring certificate is not required
• Proficiency in postpartum care, newborn care, antepartum care, and antepartum monitoring
• Strong communication, clinical judgment, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills

Labor & Delivery Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn patients.
• Monitor maternal and fetal status, recognize changes in condition, and promptly escalate concerns.
• Support patients and families throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and the postpartum period.
• Deliver comprehensive newborn care, including assessment, education, and coordination of care.
• Float to Labor & Delivery and NICU according to unit needs and provide care within demonstrated competencies.
• Educate patients and families on recovery, newborn care, safety, and available support resources.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and support staff to promote positive birth experiences and patient outcomes.
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and education in the medical record.
